CONTEMPORARY WASTE is an effort to shift Western cultures material values in order to embrace a more sustainable ‘high-end’ design aesthetic. Combining waste, off cuts, scrap, and end of life materials, with an emphasis on construction and industrial process by-products, with a high end contemporary de- sign aesthetic. Creating a dialogue between traditional, luxury and commonplace, utilitarian materials and finishes. An investigation into how a Do it Yourself (DIY) ‘up-cycling’ aesthetic can be merged with high end contemporary design and sculpture. Challenging the value we associate with utilitarian materials and function driven design by changing the context in which it’s seen and used.
