Wavy Stool

14"D x 14"W x 18"H
American white ash
completed 2020

This piece represents a continuation of my investigation and fascination of soft curves in wood. By rolling all edges the presence of a wooden form changes dramatically. The rolled edges aesthetically transform the hardwood into a ‘soft’ and welcoming design that may be counterintuitive to the typical materiality seen in objects of hardwood. All lines ‘wave’ into the next providing a continuous flow throughout the stools design. Attention in purposely drawn to the joinery through the exaggeration of the parts interfacing.
